Masashi Hamauzu, Fragment of Memory
This song is from Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus.
Masashi Hamuzu is the leading composer for Square Enix’s latest game from their flagship series, Final Fantasy XIII. Aside from Final Fantasy, he has worked on several other big titles such as the the SaGa series, Brave Fencer: Musashi, and the Front Mission series. After Nobuo Uematsu left Square Enix in 2004, he became the main composer at Square Enix.
After 16 years at the fabled company Square and Square Enix, he finally left along with composers Junya Nakano and following Kenichiro Fukui, who left in 2007.
I don’t know how many composers they have left of the original sound team at Square/Square Enix, but this does not bode well for the future if they don’t hire some more experienced musicians. One of the primary reasons for the success of many of their games is the music, and it will continue to be this way.
Squaresoft produced some of the most beautiful music I have heard in my entire life, and Square Enix, even without the legendary Uematsu in their ranks, have lived up to their name. It would be a shame (and probably disastrous) if they didn’t continue to take pride in their music.
